Harriet: "...on a grid as unstable as InWorldz, running on questionable hardware..."
Surely no one expects a system to run 24/7/365 with zero glitches? Especially in grids that are still in development stage?
A core CPU went out and needed replaced. It was that simple. Had nothing to do with stability or data. Sometimes CPUs go bad, even on the best systems.
Second Life used to have asset server failures on a monthly basis. They lost the original Ahern due to lack of maintaining proper backups. Inworldz experienced a simple issue that they located and fixed immediately. For the record, they had it badk up and running in less than 28 minutes.
How many times has OpenSim or OSgrid had issues with asset servers? Stuff happens.
I am so tired of the biased propaganda I read in these comments. They're bogus to the point of being silly. I worked as a corporate consultant for over 25 years Harriet, and I know how systems function. To claim that Inworldz is "unstable" because they've had one single CPU failure in what... four years?... is unrealistic. Do you know how many CPUs are employed in a grid like Inworldz?
Again, they were back up and running in 28 minutes with zero data loss. That's on a relatively new server system that they're still getting up to speed on. My guess is that showed them a chink in the armor that they can fix for the future.
Now... are we to believe that OpenSim or other grids never have equipment or asset failures? I know that OpenSim does; I experienced inventory glitches within 2 hours of installing Sim on a Stick. Now THAT is unstable.
Speaking of OpenSim... anyone know how OSgrid is doing? The uber-destructive drama / dictator issues ended there yet? ; )
Glass houses people. I don't think any user of OpenSim-based grids has any business casting stones at Inworldz. It's proved over time to be far more stable than OpenSim. I don't know what folk's problem is regarding Inworldz... but geeminy... get over it. Success envy, much? ; )
