Landlords making backups is not feasible on Opensim. They can back up OARs easily enough... but an IAR takes hours to back up. This isn't like doing a local backup. Backing up an IAR across the Net takes ruddy ages. The land owners don't have time / ability to perform IAR backups for their residents... and the residents can't do it themselves because they don't have direct access to the asset server.
So not to be contrary, but I'm afraid a great deal is going to be lost on OSgrid. The ones that might survive are those who own their own servers and are using OSgrid as an asset center... those who have full GodMode control over their lands and inventory... and those who bother to make regular backups (that tends to fall by the wayside for most, because it does take so very long).
