Previous the 2014 fiasco following the asset server failure then I cancelled my regular donation to OSGrid, especially after it became apparent how janky the whole system was (no effective back-up system) and that the replacement was little better in ensuring that resident's assets were safe. Even back then the grid hid behind the 'test grid' status even as they solicited for donations - whatever happened to the principle of no taxation without representation? My approach was to self-host my own builds using the Diva Distro, and though I have run the odd region in OSGrid, I've always regarded those regions as expendable.
I'm personally not averse to paying for things and I make a small monthly donation to the world that gave me my first free region to build on. In general I think there needs to be a change of culture away from the ludicrous notion that 'Everything in Opensim should be free' and towards an Opensim where modest costs are a norm.
